The fascial system of the body is critical to both normal homeostasis and to wound repair following many forms of trauma. This seminar will approach an understanding of the fascial system and its function by initially exploring the role of fascia in development and as well as the distribution of fascia throughout the body.
A four-layer classification of fascia will be offered and the role of fascia in guiding normal movement and homeostasis will be explored. The response of fascia to traumatic injury and the resulting healing process will be presented.
Finally, when heal is not optimal, significant fascial adhesions and contractures can develop impairing the return of normal function. The pathophysiology of these abnormal fascial reactions will be examined.
This seminar will help Osteopathic Practitioners better understand the healing process in their injured patients.
